Javier ALKAINSan Sebastián, 1960 Javier Alkain is a Bask painter well-known for his abstract works which often are inspired by nature. After studying at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid in the 1990s, Alkain moved to San Sebastián where he continued his academic career and established his studio. His works have been the subject of several individual as well as collective art exhibitions in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and San Sebastián. In 2000, Alkain was awarded the Gure Artea Art Prize. In 2001, he featured his works in a show on the Gallery Colón XVI in Bilbao, for the reopening of the Fine Arts Museum to this city who reveal “Gaur, Hemen, Orain”. Alkain’s fascination with nature can be seen in his use of images of the sea, the sand and the desert. He transforms these subjects into abstract images via painting, calligraphy and poetry. Through these artistic means, Alkain gives form to his thoughts and subconscious, leading to painting that is both. analytic, meditative and contemplative . Inter-crossing lines, spheres which merge and the repetition of forms, together with the use of monochrome tones , combine to create images in which reality and imagination merge, leading the spectator to reflect on his/her vision of the world.
