Irkus ROBLES ARANGIZ
Born in Begoña (Bilbao) in 1937, Irkus Robles is the eighth child of a large Basque family comprising 11 brothers and sisters. When he was just a month old, his parents settled in Briscous, where Irkus spent all of his childhood until 1952. At this time, he returned to Bilbao, both enriched by and aware of his life in Iparralde and his Biscayan roots.
Choosing his studies, Irkus pursues drawing, theatre, dance and singing, all of which he practices together. In 1970, he fully dedicates himself to painting and three years later holds his first exhibit in Bilbao. This is the first in a long series of exhibits (Pamplona, San Sebastian, Victoria, Caracas, Mexico, Bayonne ,Madrid…) which have won him enduring acclaim.
Irkus Robles is a Basque painter, recognized, faithful and convinced, a legitimate heir to Montes Iturrioz, Cabanas, Oteïza or Ignace F. Bibal . He is also an important witness of the people, life, traditions and land of the Basque Country.
In the eyes of his numerous collectors, each of his paintings has a value second to none: that of authenticity!
