Urdazubi means in Basque language water and bridge
Many channels cross ,irrigate the village and mirror the beautiful façades of the "indianos"(Basque having emigrated to South America) mansions.
The architectural style of his buildings is without any doubt one of the main attractions of Urdax where the traditional and the noble are harmoniously combined.
In the village streets one can notice the coats of arms of mansions owned by "indianos"(emigrants from the village who returned and built sumptuous houses): Sabatenea, Mitxelena, Indiano-Baita, Donpedronea, as well as the house of Pedro Axular.
Pedro Aguerre Azpilikueta «Axular», priest, famous Basque writer who lived in the first half of the XVIIth century and wrote the famous Gero («After»in English) a masterpiece of Basque literature.
