Roger BRAVARD(1923-2015) Do you know the Sanzists? A group of independent artists founded just after the war, in 1945, in Lyon, to gather young talents taken by modernity and freedom, wishing to shake up the world of art with insouciance and happiness? These painters include among others, Cottavoz, Fusaro and Bravard. Claiming that they were neither impressionist, nor fauvist, nor surrealist… all in all, they were simply not part of any “ist”. Rather they were themselves. Roger Bravard, born in 1923 in Malintrat in the Puy de Dôme (French Départment) dedicated his life to painting over an outstanding sixty year period : awarded numerous Prizes at countless exhibits, having executed an impressive amount of paintings, gouaches and drawings, and making extraordinary encounters, his desire to paint remains intact to this day. At the beginning of the eighties, Bravard settled definitively in Iparralde, his wife’s village, to become the witness of his adoptive land, a land in which he “immerses” himself fully. Thus, willingly or maybe despite himself, Roger Bravard the Sanzist, to our great pleasure, has become a great painter of the Basque Country. Roger Bravard is dead june 17th 2015.
