PIER
Born in 1950, starting in 1969 Pier “modestly” makes his artistic debuts after having studied at the School for Graphic Arts in Bordeaux. Even if his first works are impressionist in style , quickly he distances himself from his peers through his use of broken and structured lines. In his compositions, these lines flooded with light evoke the landscapes and characters from his native Basque Country.
Pier depicts through his very stylised stroke, almost caricatural, the prominent figures and sceneries of his native coastal Basque Country (Saint jean de Luz, Ciboure…). He does this without ever omitting his interest in domestic scenes, creating highly personalized major art works.
Indeed, Pier knows how to give to his painting severity and softness, light and warmth. Pier enters with his painting in entire areas of the local tradition, and maybe even without noticing it pays tribute to a people proud of his history.
Pier himself has now entered the history of great contemporary Basque painters.
This is why, his “name” most assuredly will remain engraved in our memories…
